Resolved Question: Do we need Crossrail?

14 November 2008, 10:10 pm

I remember going from Hayes to Great Yarmouth by train in the 1970s. It went via Willesden Junction and Camden. I've noticed on a London map there are many surface railways that already exist. Wouldn't it be quicker and cheaper to refurbish these existing lines? I'm very familiar with traveling east-west across London by train and there are loads of ways. I often travel by train to Southend-on-sea. I've used all the various routes. eg: from Uxbridge the Met to Liverpool Street, from there to Southend Victoria station; or Hayes and change at Ealing Broadway for the Central to Liverpool Street or Stratford to Southend; or Northolt to Stratford; or Paddington to Stratford, etc. There is never usually a problem. I feel sure it would be quicker and easier and money would be better spent improving the existing network first - possibly linking up the existing lines rather than build something else.
